Forrest Reviews the World: "I've used Jackery Explorer 240 for months now and I think this thing is really really awesome for a couple different reasons. This has kind of been my filmmaking go-to. I ended up bringing this with me for a couple different filmmaking trips in the van and also a filmmaking trip on a sailboat which ended up being really handy because we could charge as the engine ran in the sailboat. You can charge through 12 volt directly into the input from a cigarette lighter plug and you could charge this up at 40 watts. That would take quite a while to charge you to full capacity but you charge it for a few hours and then you can run things off at night from this. It has two USB ports both at five volt and then it has a AC inverter.

This thing is come in handy when I've had a power outage at my house I can plug in some twinkle lights and light up an entire room. We could run our laptop and watch a movie all sorts of stuff. So this entire van is pretty much runs solely from this Jackery and the reason why is because you can charge this thing three different ways. You can charge it through an AC outlet. Plug it into a wall. You can charge it from a cigarette lighter. So you can plug it into your van and while your alternator is running or while your motor is on you could charge this which is super super convenient for low tech small van builds. And then you can also charge it directly from a solar panel. One of the downsides is the design. I think just this handle. It comes up a couple inches and the amount of times that you really need to use this handle is just for transport otherwise it's in the way. That's a little bit inconvenient. There's no real downsides. I mean obviously there's a limitation of how much power you can get from this. It's only 240 watt hours but it's gonna last you quite a while."

Now the benefits of this whole ecosystem of products is that it is very scalable and can provide you up to 25 kilowatt hours of stored power with a combined output of 7200 watts continuous power. However this is probably not going to come cheap. Multiple units batteries and all these accessories will quickly run up the tab. So what you get here is a 3600 kilowatt-hour battery capacity and a 3600 watt inverter with all sorts of outputs a nice led screen. You get an app that works with this thing so you can control it remotely. It has wheels on it so you can wheel it around. It does weigh a hundred pounds. It's doable to lift this with two people. It's doable to lift it by yourself if you're in good shape and you don't have issues with your back but I would say that this is definitely more of a semi stationary unit one in which you're going to want to use around the house. You could use this in an RV but that's still going to be adding a little bit to your payload.

Now one of the limitations of systems like this is that the solar input is for 1200 watts meaning that you can only continuously use 1200 watts ever if you're powering this by the sun. So in spite of the fact that yes it can output 3 600 watts so you can run a dryer with this appliance that takes over 3000 watts but you're only going to be able to run it for about an hour. So is something like this necessary for emergency preparedness? I would say that it's nice to have that functionality. It's nice to be able to power something which might be more power hungry if you needed to but at the same time if you're running the dryer in an emergency or a dishwasher then I think your priorities aren't necessarily in the right place. But it is nice to have that periodic power if you want to run some power tools. So I would say that this is a good unit for somebody who had a significant amount of disposable income wanted an all-in-one plug-and-play package didn't want to bother with the modularity of the flex system and you just wanted something that you can basically provide your family with an emergency backup power supply. That is going to be able to power 99 of the stuff in your house for short periods of time.

In terms of the design I'd say it's probably one of the nicest looking power systems on the market.It's got a nice aesthetic to it. It is made of plastic. It's not made of aluminum but honestly it has a really solid build quality to it. So the use case for something like this ideally is somewhere in between an RV and a home. There are different types of RV outputs on here depending on how many electronics and appliances you were trying to run. You can get additional batteries to increase a battery capacity. That extra batteries sit on top and they stack on top of one another in a very similar way that the Flex does. Now if you have two of these you can combine them together and there is an accessory that allows you to actually double the output power so you are able to even go over 3600 watts if you combine two of the units together. It does have 3500 recharge cycles. It's a lithium-ion phosphate configuration which is why it's a bit heavier compared to equivalent units.

Now another cool function of this is that if you are powering it by a wall this will fully charge in 2.7 hours. That's pretty good considering the size of the battery in here. The downside of that is that the faster you charge this thing the more stress you're putting on the battery. If you're using a supercharge all the time you are going to shorten the overall lifespan of your battery. So this actually gives you an option. If you wanted to reduce the speed of the charge there's a button on the back that allows you to adjust that. So if you got money to burn if you got that bitcoin money that crypto money that you're you know looking to put somewhere this is a good investment because like I say lots of recharge cycles. It's going to last you a long time. It's something that's definitely going to come in handy in an emergency situation. There is an ev adapter so you can actually charge this at your electric vehicle charging stations which is really cool. And you can charge it at 3000 watts. So I believe you can charge it in about an hour and a half through one of those rapid charging stations."
