What is the best ash vacuum?

Whether you are a fan of BBQ parties or like spending time beside a fireplace, an ash vacuum cleaner will make your leisure time even more enjoyable. Like a regular vacuum, this tool has a nozzle to draw up ash and dust. The difference is in special filters designed to capture the smallest ash particles.

Good-quality ash vacuums are equipped with large 2 to 3 HEPA filters, which are resistant to both heat and clogging. Another essential component is a suction motor with a fan speed ranging from 30,000 to 35,000 revolutions per minute (RPM).

The third element is a canister, which is meant to hold ash particles sucked up by the vacuum. When buying your ash vacuum, make sure its canister is made from heavy-duty metal and can withstand high temperatures. Also, look for an ash vacuum that includes three or more nozzle options.

How Ash Vacuums Differ

Based on the design, there are canister ash vacuums and handheld ones. A canister ash vacuum is a more traditional and widespread option with a large ash container. Most ash vacuums have a canister with a capacity ranging from 11 to 19 litres. For large fireplaces, you may need a unit with a higher capacity.

Handheld vacuums have the advantage of being compact and portable. However, they can only be used to clean limited amounts of ash and come with a small ash container located near the upper part of the unit. Unlike canister ash vacuums, which are equipped with a powerful motor, handheld ones use 12V batteries.

Ash vacuums can be categorised into cold and hot ones. The difference is that hot vacuums can safely such up warm ashes, with some models being able to withstand temperatures of up to 650°C. They consist of heat-resistant materials, including a hose.

Cold ash vacuums, on the contrary, can only collect cold substances. This means that you will have to wait for more than 10 hours and let the ash cool before you can vacuum it.

Best Ash Vacuums Compared

The Kärcher AD 4 Premium Ash Vacuum is an electric corded unit with a flame-resistant metal container and a jacketed metal hose. Surprisingly, this device is safe even when used incorrectly! Made with a 600 watt turbine, the unit provides long-lasting suction power and vacuums large amounts of ashes at a time.

You can clean the clogged filter by simply pressing a button, which activates the integrated filter cleaning system. The emptying of the container is carried out without contact with the ash. The beveled hand tube allows for picking up ashes in hard-to-reach spots, while the floor nozzle is designed to clean hard surfaces.

Unlike the Kärcher AD 4, the Einhell Wet-Dry Ash Filter Vacuum Attachment comes without a motor. This unit does not have suction power and needs to be attached to a conventional vacuum cleaner to operate. The reason for using this attachment is to protect the vacuum’s filter system.

The Einhell Ash Vacuum Attachment has a 12-litre capacity and a hose with a length of 100 cm and a diameter of 36 mm. The unit can handle both wet and dry substances but only when they are cooled. Made from aluminium, the device weighs only 1.5 kg compared to 7.5 kg of the Kärcher AD 4.
