How a Tattoo Transfer Machine Works
These machines use stencil paper rather than standard A4 paper to transfer ink on the body. The page includes a yellow sheet, a brown sheet, and a carbon sheet, which are connected together. After removing these layers, you have two sheets of paper left: the stencil paper and carbon one.
Open the printer’s lid and insert the carbon paper face down into the slot. Feed the yellow sheet of paper through the bottom of the lid, with the purple carbon face down. Print your tattoo design on paper and feed it into the opening facing the machine’s lid.
Press the copy button and design will be transferred to the thermal paper. After the ready-to-use stancil is applied to the skin, leave it for about two minutes to set, without rubbing it. Peel the paper away and go ahead with your work.
Types of Tattoo Transfer Machines
Tattoo transfer machines can be divided into two categories. Thermal stencil machines are specifically designed to print stencils on the thermal paper. They use carbon paper, which is now manufactured only for the tattoo industry.
These machines do a great job but have the downside of getting hot. We recommend buying a transfer machine with cooling functionality to avoid overheating.
Tattoo transfer machines can be connected to your PC via a USB cord. Models that pair with smart devices allow you to print stencils from your smartphone wirelessly.
Another type is a regular laser printer, which can also be used to generate stencils. Keep in mind, though, that this type of printer is not recommended for any serious tattoo work, especially if your client is not sure about the tattoo’s design.
