Jason Leung: "In the past years the whole world has been affected by a global pandemic which means a lot of businesses gyms have been forced to close leaving many martial artists, fighters, combat athletes unable to train. This is precisely around the time when I decided to invest in a grappling dummy because I was currently training in BJJ. I was also doing judo at the time as well then the pandemic hit which you know forced everyone to take a pause, to delay all their plans including me. So like many people out there I was itching to train. I just needed to find a way to keep on improving and keep moving forward in my martial arts journey. So I started doing my research and I came across Century Martial Arts which is where I got my Century Heavy Grappling Dummy. Their grappling dummies come in I think 70 pounds, 90 pounds, 120 and then 190. So the grappling dummy I settled with was the 90 pound and for me I think that is the perfect size and weight. I am personally 5,7. I weigh around 140-145 pounds and I didn't want anything too heavy because I'm going to be storing this in my house. I didn't want to take up a huge amount of space and just wanted it to be convenient for my training.

So I got the 90 pound dummy. It's great to work with. Not too heavy. Not too light. Just the perfect amount to get my repetitions in and work on my skills. The material on it is vinyl. It's actually the same material of the Wave Master bag and it's highly highly durable. I've had this dummy now for a little bit more than two years and it has never ripped on me. It's never torn at the seams or stitching. You can practice with full intensity on this and you can rest assured that this will never break tear or rip on you. What I like about this grappling dummy is that I can throw it as hard as I want and I can throw it as many times as I want and I can really go for submissions on this as opposed to if you had a real training partner. They might not appreciate you slamming them on the head over and over repetitively and just arm barring them day in and day out.

The first reason why I think you should buy grappling dummy is because they are just a great workout. Every time I use the dummy I'm always finished drenched in sweat, muscles feeling swoll and vascular and my cardio is pumping. You can do a wide variety of exercises, drills and martial arts on the grappling dummy. If you want to work judo you can obviously work all the basic throws you need to work on. You can also use a grappling dummy for ground and pound, any type of striking on the floor. You can even prop it up against a wall or you know in my case a freestanding heavy bag such as a Century Wave Master and then you can strike on it. You can use the grappling dummy as an actual heavy bag and it might be even more realistic because it has the arms out and you can have target areas and work your angles. Also you can lay the dummy flat to work on your BJJ. This dummy is great for working arm bars. This dummy is great for neon belly and just the standard toriyondo type passes. But I'd say for BJJ you can't really work a lot of guard. I mean you can but it's just not as convenient as one of those slinky sandy dummies that are more like foldable. The century grappling dummy is built to last. It's very durable very sturdy and by no means does it fold easily.

I've had it for a period of time and when I was able to train with a real-time partner I felt like my skills on the grappling dummy did translate to actual grappling with a real opponent. What the dummy is challenging for is getting into closed guard and just practicing closed guard submissions and drills the way I like to get into closed guard because the dummy doesn't fold its legs. I'd say one last issue some might have is just storing the grappling dummy itself if you don't have the space in the house or anywhere to put it. It's just a big heavy object that kind of takes up a lot of space but you know I'm fortunate to have room where I live to put this so it's no problem giving him a nice home. But overall guys this specific grappling dummy by Century is probably the top dummy in the game just because you can do many things with it as opposed to just a BJJ submission dummy where you can only practice submissions. Overall I'd say out of 10 I'd give it a 9 and a half. The point five is off mainly just because my closed guard is limited but then that'll just force you to become stronger in your top game and pressure which is where a lot of people might lack."
