The InSinkErator is a trusted brand of advanced food waste disposal systems. The company is owned by Emerson Electric Co., a U.S.-based multinational corporation with more than 130 years of experience in the electrical equipment industry. Unlike regular disposals, Insinkerators are capable of coping with most types of food waste, including eggshells and bones.

They are equipped with an air switch that activates the device using air pressure rather than electricity, something that makes the unit safer in operation. This system does not use blades, something that prevents drains from being blocked. Insinkerator disposals do not require maintenance and the best way to keep the unit in good condition is to use it on a regular basis. It is also recommended to let the water run for several seconds after the disposer is turned off.

You can choose from 6 different InSinkErator disposal units that vary by capacity and functionality. The most advanced model is the InSinkErator Evolution 200 S Food Waste Disposal Unit, which is the most powerful and quietest option in the product line. The machine uses special sound technology and an induction motor, which makes its operation virtually noiseless. The grinding chamber has a volume of 1,180 ml and is designed to handle large amounts of food waste. Moreover, it is equipped with a three-stage grinding system, which distinguishes this model favourably from the competition and allows it to cope with tough-to-grind waste.

You may go with a less expensive model — the InSinkErator Evolution 100 S Food Waste Disposal Unit that uses two-stage grinding technology. While the Evolution 200S breaks down food scraps into particles that are finer than a fingernail, the Evolution 100S grinds them into particles that are as fine as a fingernail. They also differ by the noise level and capacity. The 200S model is 60% quieter than standard units, whereas the 100S disposal unit is quieter only by 40%. The InSinkErator Evolution 100S is a little bit smaller in size and features a 1005 ml grind chamber.

The other four models are not recommended for grinding fibrous materials such as banana peel and have a smaller chamber capacity of 980 ml. They are pretty quiet but do not use special sound technology. Unlike 100S and 200S models, these ones have only one stage of grinding and come without an auto-reverse feature. The latter reduces the risk of jams and prolongs the unit’s lifespan. The S60 model is intended for medium-sized households. It features a single-phase motor, 0.55 horsepower, and measures around 17 x 17 x 32 cm. The more popular InSinkerator Model 66 Food Waste Disposal Unit is cheaper but can be used in large households and is bigger in size. More importantly, it has a horsepower of 0.75 and ‎a stainless steel grind chamber.

There are also the Insinkerator Model 56 and InSinkerator Model 46 that will cost you under £200 and under £100, respectively. Both products are one-stage disposal units and have a horsepower of 0.55. The main difference is that model 56 can be used in medium-sized households, whereas model 46 is designed only for small households. Also, the InSinkerator Model 46 offers a basic sound level and comes with a permanent baffle, which isn’t convenient when it comes to cleaning the unit.
