Previously commercial pressure washers were mainly used for large business or industrial purposes. However, recently more and more people prefer such machines for household use, as well. Thus, commercial pressure washers have become indispensable and versatile tools in our daily life.

What is the best commercial pressure washer? So, as this unit has to be powerful enough to handle any super heavy-duty cleaning, choose the engine or motor from the trusted brands. You should obligatory think over the needs and place you are going to operate the machine. Thus, you will make the right decision in terms of the power source, whether it will be petrol, electric, or diesel-based. The power ratings should be also determined in advance, as the commercial pressure washers can deliver a wide pressure range of 3000 to 5000 PSI.

The best option would be capable to vary the pressure settings depending on a current cleaning goal, starting from the most sensitive to the harshest surfaces.

Portability is another critical factor, as the overall dimensions and weight of the commercial pressure washers are much bigger than those of the residential use counterparts. So, you should look for a reliable and durable transport system. Usually, a pressure washer has a form of a 2 or a 4-wheel system installed. These wheels should provide their full maneuverability with a “never flat” sturdy type.

Commercial pressure equipment can be used to clean industrial facilities, the exterior of buildings, parking lots, etc. They can also be effectively used to clean ships, sidewalks, and entrances as well as sports facilities and grounds. More than that, nowadays they are frequently used by regular homeowners.

How Commercial/Industrial and Residential Pressure Washers Differ

A pressure washer is capable of efficiently cleaning permanent graffiti marks out of walls, grime, molds, grease, and oil stains. As a result, it’s the best choice for business outdoor use. More than that, it can be used for household purposes to keep your outdoor clean. The patio, walkways, fencing, cars and trucks and more can be cleaned easily with the help of this pressure washer.

  • Power. Commercial pressure washers feature higher power ratings than residential units due to the extremely reliable and powerful engines and pumps they are equipped with. For instance, you can select a machine with a variety of pressure settings from 3000 to 5000 PSI and 2.6 - 4.0 GPM depending on your particular application. To the average homeowner, using a pressure washer to clean the household property, 1,500 PSI and 1.2 - 2.2 GPM will be enough.

  • Materials. Many pressure washers come with a steel casing, which is highly resistant to corrosion and heat. Steel coating does not wear easily, ensuring that your machine retains its new appearance for a long time. The commercial pressure washers have stronger hoses that are double-braided and wire-reinforced with brass couplings, while residential models use thinner vinyl or rubber hoses and plastic or steel couplings.
  • Runtime. Commercial pressure washers can run continuously for a long time as they're meant for a large-scale, industrial cleaning. Residential models are not built to run for extended periods of time; they're designed to handle smaller jobs like cleaning a driveway or similar for about twenty minutes to one hour at a time.
  • Portability. We think that the best portable, compact commercial pressure washer for the construction industry is DEWALT DXPW001CE High-Pressure Washer. It is lightweight only ‎21.5 kg thus it is very easy to transport. The inlet water temperature: max. 60°C.
  • Temperature. If you need a pressure washer able to produce water temperatures of up to 140°C to sterilize surfaces there is only one manufacturer — Hyundai that produces such an electric machine with a vertical boiler.

The point of this guide is not to blast residential pressure washers. They are indeed great and powerful machines that certainly serve their owners for home-use purposes.

But I want to highlight that commercial pressure washers can cost three times as much as the residential units due to their advanced and stronger features mentioned above.

And if you're purchasing a pressure washer for business, you need to know this. Thus, you’ll be able to get a machine satisfying the needs of your facility.

Petrol or electric industrial pressure washers for commercial use

Another important distinction between commercial pressure washers is in power source, whether petrol or electric. Both types bring certain benefits. Let’s find out about the main features and pros and cons of their operation.

Petrol Pressure Washers

Petrol pressure washers provide the power and portability that many businesses are looking for. There’s no need for electrical cables. Thus it allows cleaning even on the most remote sites. As long as there’s enough fuel in the tank and a steady water supply, you can proceed with your cleaning projects.

These washers produce the PSI and GPM that cut through the toughest dirt. When it comes to high-rating power, there is nothing like a petrol engine. If you select this option, make sure to test the sensitivity of the surfaces you want to clean.

Though, there are two things you will have to deal with. I mean noise and fumes. The petrol engines are much louder than the electric motors. And due to the exhaust gases, they emit you won’t be able to use them indoors. Besides, gas pressure washers do require regular maintenance.

Electric Commercial Jet Wash

They are an essential tool for cleaning and sanitizing any indoors. Electric washers are quiet and efficient, yet provide the power that many jobs require. Besides they are considered to be maintenance-free.

Electric units are gaining popularity thanks to technological advancements such as environmental-friendly power sources.

The major downside is mobility restriction. That is the power outlet is a must, wherever you want to clean. Manufacturers are integrating extra-long cords, but it would not help if you deal with large areas to be cleaned.

Hot Water or Cold Water

Hot Water Pressure Washers

When hot water and pressure are combined within a commercial washer, the latter will get outstanding cleaning effectiveness. With water temperatures up to 200 degrees Fahrenheit, highly pressurized hot water machines are capable to tackle oil and grease with higher efficiency.

Using hot water machines allows reducing detergents’ consumption. In most cases, grease and oil stains can be simply removed by hot water treatment. Thus, you are able to save money and reduce the environmental impact.

Besides, the surfaces treated with hot water dry faster. Thus, you save time and can proceed with further work to be done.

Cold Water Pressure Washers

When hot water is not specifically needed, cold pressure washers can be successfully used for a wide range of cleaning applications. They are usually operated on higher power modes. That is, the higher the PSI and GPM ratings, the more efficient cleaning is.

There is the possibility to connect a cold water model to hot water supplies, depending on its type.

Besides, cold water pressure washers are less expensive and require less maintenance in comparison with the hot water models.

Direct Drive vs. Belt Drive Pump

While selecting a pressure washer there are a lot of variables to be considered. Type of the drive is among such considerations. Should you buy a machine with a belt-driven or direct-driven pump? Let’s figure it out!

Direct drive pump

The main difference is that the direct-drive pressure washer comes with the pump directly mounted to the engine. Thus, the washer runs at about the same speed as the engine itself. The normal gasoline engine speed is about 4000 RPM. Since the pump is connected directly to the engine shaft, they have the same RPM.

This drive system is simple, with fewer moving parts, therefore it is offered at a lower price on the market. Simple design contributes to the lighter weight and compactness of the pressure washer it is built-in.

However, the same speed of the pump and the engine or motor leads to earlier wearing of bearings and other parts, reducing the lifetime of the pump. Another disadvantage is that the direct-drive pressure washers transfer the vibration of the engine or motor directly to the pump.

Belt drive pump

The belt drive pressure washer is equipped with an engine that drives the pump through a pulley-belt arrangement. The pulley is mounted to the shaft of the pump and is driven by one or more belts that are fastened to a pulley on the motor or engine. The pulley system allows these pumps to turn at a slower speed than the direct drive pump. Usually, it turns within 900-1400 RPM.

The pump is isolated from the heat of the engine or motor, also. Belts and pulleys absorb vibration, enhancing pump durability. On the grounds of the above-mentioned, most heavy-duty cleaning jobs will demand a pressure washer with a belt drive pump.

However, belt drive machines require additional maintenance for the adjustment of the belt.

Summarizing the above-mentioned it follows that the direct-drive pressure washers are perfect for casual or home use. The belt-driven pressure washers will mostly suit the industrial cleaning demands.

How are Petrol Commercial Pressure washers more efficient than electric ones?

  1. Power Output: Petrol pressure washers tend to have higher power output compared to electric ones. This means they can generate higher pressure and flow rate, which makes them more effective at cleaning tough dirt and grime.
  2. Portability: Petrol pressure washers are more portable than electric ones as they do not need to be plugged into an electrical outlet. This makes them ideal for use in outdoor or remote locations where there is no access to electricity.
  3. Continuous Use: Petrol pressure washers can run for longer periods of time without needing to be recharged or refueled. This is useful for large cleaning projects that require continuous use.
  4. Cold Water Capability: Some petrol pressure washers are designed to handle cold water, making them ideal for colder climates. On the other hand, electric pressure washers may work less effectively in cold temperatures.
  5. Durability: Petrol pressure washers are generally more durable and have a longer lifespan compared to electric ones, making them a more cost-effective choice in the long run.

He studied Sports Turf Science at Greenmount Agricultural College and has been working in the industry for three decades. Lynn is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Horticulture and the UK Lawn Care Association.

“Today's video is all about restoring this block paved driveway. I am gonna put a pretreatment on it, clean it and then biocide it. A really good way to get rid of lichen on paving is to use hypochlorite. You will hear people call it hype or the farmers’ bleach. You will want to wet the surface beforehand. I have soaked most of the driveway and I am just agitating it. That helps agitate the bleach and get it down into the linchen. This is a 20-inch flat surface cleaner and it is run off a 21-meter Honda power washer. Complete beast of a machine. Runs really well. The waters are all running down and there is supposedly a drain there.”

Testing & Customers Reviews

Here are the reviews from YouTube bloggers who tested the commercial pressure washer and have found them effective and worth buying.

Expertise: Driveway cleaning and restoration of block paving using the Honda professional petrol power washer that puts out 21 litres of water per minute.

Robbie Lynn, Professional Gardener with 30 years experience, Newtownabbey, Northern Ireland: "A really good way to get rid of lichen on paving is to use hypochlorite or to give it. Its full name is sodium hydrochloride. You'll hear people call it hype or the farmer's bleach. It's industrial-strength bleach. Any time you use it no matter how careful you are you'll always go home with a bit of bleach stain on your clothes, so I always wear nitrile gloves the chemical gloves, and the face shield just to keep any splashes out of my eyes. I also don't believe in making it that strong. So that's a 10 litre watering can. I wouldn't fill it right up. I only put about 8 litres into it and top it up with a bit of bleach. If you are just using this and you're not gonna use the biocide, you might wanna put it on a bit stronger and you want to wet the surface as well beforehand. For it to work the best the surface needs to be wet.

So what I'm doing here, I've soaked most of the driveway and I'm just agitating it. The reason for that helps really activates the bleach and helps get it down into the lichen. Then this will help smooth the cleaning. So whenever we'll come back in a couple of hours it's gonna break down along with the lichen and save us time on the actual cleaning. So this is a twenty-inch flat surface cleaner and it's run off at 21 metre Honda power washer. Complete beast of a machine. Runs really well. If you were wanting to hire something like this for the day it's probably around about a hundred pounds a day including the flat surface cleaner. Now, at the bottom the waters all running down and there's supposedly a drain there. The customer did say to me that she didn't think the drain worked that well. The water has obviously run down to the bottom and the sediment has all collected in there. I assume that that drain's blocked.

Now we're just on the final washdown using a 40-degree tip. We have another puddle collecting here. It's in most circumstances isn't great. This is a Nilfisk vac. It's essentially a wet/dry vacuum cleaner. This is the only tool in my arsenal that I need the customer's electricity for because it runs off of a three-thousand-watt electric motor. This is a really really handy tool to have if you're doing the driveway and you know that there's a puddle somewhere. If you have one of these here it just saves you so much time and effort. It's really useful for getting rid of all up last remaining sediment. So if a puddle collected there's always a danger that whenever you came back it was gonna be a puddle of dirt. This is something else you can use. This is called a mud sucker. So we attach the power washer onto the end of it and then you put that down a flat surface and then you can put that in that puddle and you can move a puddle from one place to another. Not as good but can get you out of a hole. So that's not finished. We're going to come back another day and do the biocide. It was too wet to do the biocide that night."

Frank luxobzor: "I wanted to show you today this RX550i. It's another pressure washer.

This is supposed to be equal to your petrol power pressure washers. Let's have a look. It's 3800 psi and it's on 262 bar. So, it's supposed to be really really powerful.

So, you have your patio cleaner and unlike like the Karcher, i reviewed before, which didn't even have these right. So, it was scraping off i'll show you what i mean now. So, if you get Karcher for 150, but now it costs more and you get only this. So, for example, this is what you can see this as you can see it's a Karcher and this is how it's supposed to come i think and these are no good just keep scraping the pavements and making a horrible noise.

So, let's have a look at this closer up. So, yes you also have another attachment here and this one is for your patio cleaner only. So, you attach it to that and we will test it today as well. So, you have also grab handles for these so also both supposed to be very nice and good. So, you what you also get is uh this gutter cleaner.

So, it's close to a meter long. So, all supposed to be very good i'll show you the design closer of this machine here. So, as you can see it will say pressure washer you have a button on and on RX series electric. So, and these are the nozzle attachments.

So, all very nice and you have a option to basically early on when you finish the job so everything stays nice and clear. So, fairly big gun, which is quite comfortable and you also can use a function to lock it you have a pockets for all your tools. So, all supposed to be nice and easy for your work that you take here."

A R Pressure Washers LTD: "So, i'll give you a quick run through of what it can do the Hyundai. This is actually fantastic and i'm going to demonstrate that today."

It's a high on the 3000 p2 2800 psi machine, 0.75 liters per minute. It's got a built-in detergent tank at the bottom. You just mix with your diluted soap and then swap the detergent nozzle and it will foam the car for you effortlessly. Then, when you want to rinse it off, just swap another nozzle to rinse it off. It's a very frugal forced stroke machine the fuel economy.

So, you've got seal for life pump at the back, never need to put oil in this pump, then around here as usual you've got your throttle. So, more power, less power, more power choke for a cold start. You swap it onto the choke and then swap it back over to run once engine started.

So, we'll start with the foam and rinser and then i'll demonstrate the turbo nozzle on this machine as i say this is the entry level Honda or Hyundai machine. It comes with three years warranty as standard. You've got a selection of nozzles, 15 meters of hose lance, everything you need to go on available at ar pressure washers.

We've got a couple of different nozzles here. The black one is for putting the detergent through the hose line onto the car. Once you've got your tank filled and swap to this nozzle, it automatically draws the detergent through the lines into that only with that nozzle on. If you want to rinse it off, you swap to the yellow one pretty straight forward that's all you needed to clean the car effortlessly.

So, they're so very versatile it can do the car your driveway or the patio. This is a domestic machine i did for around the house you've seen how the car cleans the car how you can use it if you're three or four cars in the house. I daily will do it effortlessly and save money at the car wash. If you wanted to clean your driveway or patio you kick off the nozzles you swap this turbo nozzle that will effortlessly rip out weeds moss all the stubborn contaminants and have your patio looking like you like a professional job. Lots of power, save time, save money on the contractor, get the job done right."

Buyers Guide

What are commercial pressure washers used for?

In fact, these machines are versatile and multifunctional cleaners that can handle various cleaning projects. They can be successfully used for commercial and heavy-duty residential purposes. So let’s find out about them in more detail.

  • Household use

In case you face some residential cleaning challenges, such as cleaning of decks, garden furniture, various stuff in the yard, windows, railings, grills, cars and other private vehicles. For these items, you can use an electric pressure washer with a pressure rate of 1300 to 2300 PSI. The machine you’ll need should be compact and easily operated. The set of nozzles and hoses, a power cord, wands, and other attachments would simplify and enhance the efficiency of the cleaning process. The onboard detergent tank would be a significant advantage.

  • Semi-commercial use

It includes cleaning of boats, vehicles, decks, fences, sidings of houses, and business facilities. The required efficiency can be provided by a gas engine or an electric motor with a power rating of 2000 to 3000 PSI. Triplex pumps that produce higher PSI and ensure long-lasting operation are highly recommended for these purposes. It should come with a sturdy design, durable frame, large wheels, wire braided high-pressure hose and advanced spray wand with a set of spray nozzles.

  • Commercial use

In this case, you need heavy-duty equipment which has enough capacity to clean industrial sites, remove paint and graffiti or clean entire car fleets. Commercial pressure washers can be powered by electricity, gas or diesel with a pressure rating of 3200 to 4400 PSI. The gas-powered machines can deliver a higher PSI rates. They are also available in the belt-driven range that increases its lifetime in comparison with a direct belt design. Besides, you can use them with both cold and hot water. The latter will be more efficient when dealing with oil and grease stains, especially under low-temperature conditions.

How much do commercial pressure washers weigh?

The standard commercial pressure washer is a quite heavy-weight machine in comparison with their residential use counterparts. The weight of the most heavy-duty commercial pressure washers can be up to 400 pounds, and even more. In particular, gas-powered and belt-driven machines are designed heavier than electric-powered washers with direct-driven pumps. If you need a powerful commercial washer then its engine will be bigger, with more complex design features, so the whole machine will weigh more.

How to Choose the Right Pressure Washer Nozzle?

The commercial pressure washers usually come with quick-connect nozzles which allow you to set different angles and different levels of control. Thus they contribute to more flexibility and versatility of the machine for the particular application. Having the correct nozzle size is crucial when operating your pressure washer as it directly affects the effectiveness of the cleaning job. Choosing the wrong nozzle can lead to damages to the property, to the sensitive surfaces, and fragile items namely. These are generally color-coded from strongest to lowest pressure:

RED (0°) produces an extremely powerful jet. You must be very careful using this nozzle as it has enough pressure to damage sensitive or fragile surfaces. They are best used to clean concrete and metallic surfaces of caked grime and dirt.

YELLOW (15°) is excellent for heavy-duty cleaning. It works well with concrete floors and walls, driveways, and even roofs. It can remove tough grime on the hard surfaces keeping a safe distance when while operating.

A GREEN (25°) is most suitable for household use. Cleaning of decks, walkways, brick patios, cars, and furniture will be successfully done with the help of this type of nozzle.

WHITE (40°) is most suitable to clean delicate surfaces as it produces gentler spray. It’s ideal for home sidings and surfaces of cars.

BLACK (65°) is a low-pressure nozzle. This nozzle is used to apply detergents or chemicals to already wet surfaces.
