What is the best leaf vacuum? They are available in three types based on a power source: corded electric, cordless electric, and gas-powered.

  • Cordless models are typically powered by a Li-ion battery and are pricier as compared to other types. The major advantage of using such a tool is its portability as you are not dependent on a power outlet and do not need to mess with cords. Although this option has risen in popularity over the past years, it has some significant downsides. Recommended most for small projects, battery-powered leaf blowers lose out in terms of runtime and power.

If you look for a wheeled leaf vacuum, you will like Sun Joe Cordless Vacuum with 8:1 Mulcher and a big 9.2-gallon collection bag.

The most comfortable leaf vacuums are walk-behind ones like Sun Joe Cordless Electric Outdoor Garden Vacuum. Its heavy-duty impact-resistant impeller shreds through dry leaves, sawdust, packing peanuts, dirt, debris, and even acorns, and mulches them to a 15:1 ratio.

The powerful 1100-watt motor provides maximum suction and the ultra-powerful 850 CFM vacuum airflow is strong enough to vacuum up acorns. But note, that wet leaves are harder to mulch.

There is also a cheaper corded electric walk-behind Sun Joe SBJ806E Vacuum & Mulcher with an 8-Gallon collection bag and pivot handle. It is lightweight (only 5 Kilograms) and easy to operate for elders. The impact-resistant nylon impeller's 15:1 reduction ratio mulches dry leaves, sawdust, packing peanuts, dirt, and debris.

  • Gas-powered leaf blowers are often used by professional landscapers and are considered to be the best bet for heavy workloads. They have sufficient power to clear large areas and handle stubborn leaves. On the other hand, such models are unpopular among homeowners and gardeners because of the lack of user-friendliness. Gas leaf blowers require maintenance, and safe storage, and produce much noise and smell. Let alone the fact that you will have to buy fuel from time to time.

Best Electric Leaf Vacuum

  • A corded electric leaf blower/vacuum is a happy medium between these two types. Like the battery-powered machines, it is very convenient to use, does not require maintenance, and is more lightweight than gas-powered leaf blowers. At the same time, it is more powerful than cordless models, doesn't need to be recharged, and is less expensive. That is why we recommend buying corded electric leaf blowers unless you deal with large projects.

An excellent choice would be the WORX WG505 TRIVAC 12 Amp Yard-in-One Blower/Mulcher/Vacuum. This electric corded model delivers a speed of up to 210 miles per hour (mph). It is pretty lightweight (5 Kilograms) and easily controlled with one hand. With a 16:1 mulching ratio, TRIVAC turns 18 bags of dry leaves into a single bag of mulch.

Equipped with a powerful 12-amp motor, the machine copes with the toughest debris and leaves. This model is among the few ones that work very well on wet leaves and suck up even twigs. It is easy to maneuver and quickly switches from a blower to a vac mode. When used in a vacuum mode, the device delivers 350 cubic feet per minute (CFM) of volume. The metal impeller provides a 16:1 mulch ratio, while the collection bag’s capacity reaches a 1-bushel of mulched leaves.

The BLACK+DECKER BEBL7000 Leaf Blower Vacuum and Mulcher is another 12 amp corded electric model but from the other brand. While being less expensive, it is more powerful with 250 mph and 400 CFM of blowing velocity. Additionally, this leaf blower is made with a power boost button that can be used to suck up more stubborn leaves. Ideal for clearing driveways and sidewalks, this 3-in-1 machine combines a blower, a vacuum, and a mulcher in one device. The bag is easy to empty thanks to a wide opening, however, the unit itself is bulkier than the WORX model.

Both devices weigh 5 kg but the BLACK+DECKER BEBL7000 measures approximately 41 x 29 x 54 cm, whereas the dimensions of the WORX leaf blower are around 51 x 38 x 23 cm.

So We Bought a House: "There is literally no problem that can't be solved by a bunch of boxes from Amazon. So I have tons of leaves all over the property. They have gotten away from me. I've had so much other stuff going on and we've had lots of rainy weekends and I just have not gotten to them. And this year I just didn't have it in me to rake them up, pick them up, throwing bags, tie the bags, bring the bags down to the curb, and have all the leaves whipped away to the landfill. This year I decided to do something a little bit different, a little bit more ecologically sound and actually try to mulch them up and reuse them around the property to protect the beds over the winter time. So what I got was the WORX WG512 blower, mulcher and vacuum. The big thing about this model is that it has a pretty good volume of air that it can push. This will help with blowing and I'm hoping for sucking and mulching as well. But as a kind of a trade-off to get that bigger volume it only has a 70 mile per hour total speed of how fast it blows. But 70 miles an hour should be plenty fast enough for moving leaves around and helping gaming piles. It might be a little tougher if you're trying to blow around dirt debris, wet leaves, those kind of things but I have another blower that's good for that. I wanted to make it easier to maintain leaves that seem to relentlessly come down on me. Now this is an electric unit which takes a cord. I could not find one that operated off of batteries and had these features so I decided to go corded. My property is not that big. It's not that hard to use an extension cord and I will hopefully not be doing this very often.

I did learn some tips and tricks from the few days I got working with this tool. The first thing you're going to want to consider is definitely looking at some of the accessories that can be added to the Trivac. So instead of having to use the bag that comes with it you can use a large trash can to collect the mulched leaves. Now the bag worked fine. It'd be great if all you had to do is do a quick cleanup on some stuff that maybe fell overnight or before having people over, that kind of stuff. Great. But it needed to be emptied and while emptying wasn't hard it is a little bit more time consuming to have to do over and over again if you're trying to mulch large quantities of leaves. So that's where this accessory comes in. You basically take the garbage can and you attach the kind of rubber band retaining ring around the garbage can and it seals it tight. Now when you go about mulching the leaves and vacuuming them up they go directly into the garbage bin. And you can put way more into it than you can ever in the bag. And that means less times you have to empty the bag itself. Now it is universal which means it basically fits on any kind of trash pail. If you use the WORX Trivac on blower mode first and you vacuum all the leaves into a big pile then you can just move the garbage can close by to the large pile, switch it into vacuum mode and go ahead and vacuum up that pile all in one shot. And you don't have to move things around too much. Once the garbage can is full you just have to empty that into a bag and throw it out.

Now here is where tip two comes in. One thing I found after obviously more than a couple of garbage cans full of leaves. I figured let's try putting the bag in the garbage can first then attaching the attachment on top so that when the mulcher mulch the leaves it blew them right into the plastic bag. And you know what? It worked and it saved so much time. All I had to do at the end was pull the bag out of the garbage can, tie it up and put it right down by the curb. And now our final tip and this one really will make the difference on whether you enjoy using this tool or hate using this tool. Now even with dry leaves as you're moving the vacuum through the pile to vacuum them up the end of the tip of the wand will get jammed up with a bunch of leaves and that will stop the suction and will stop the leaves from being pulled in and mulch. Now you can reach down, you can jiggle them off with your hand and they'll get sucked in and clear the jam but that takes a lot of time to constantly have to reach down and knock the jam out and it really slows down the work. However if you take the vacuum and you move it around quickly and bump it against the ground and shake it through the pile of leaves as you're vacuuming that kind of self clears those types of jams and keeps you working very quickly. It will save you a ton of time. The WORX Trivac did a fantastic job of helping me clean up our yard this year during the fall cleanup. There was only one downside and it wasn't that big of a downside and that was that it had to be plugged into an extension cord. Again I had outlets nearby, my property's not big enough where I couldn't reach it by extension cord so that never became an issue. But if you have a larger property it is something to think about."

markthomasbuilder: "I would say that Sun Joe Cordless Vacuum works very well as a mulcher. It's something that actually surprises me. I didn't think it's going to work that well. A lot of those leaves were really wet and it just sucked them all up really nice. So I'm really happy with it. As a blower I'd say it's adequate for a house. It's not really made for a big commercial property but for clean off your sidewalks and your driveway and some landscaping this will work well for that. So I highly recommend it. I'm really looking forward to having this in the fall when the leaves start falling. I think this is gonna work really well for cleaning out window wells, those places where leaves fall down. I've seen some push lawn mowers that have a hose that comes off of it. But why not just get something like this? Works really well. I want to mention how nice of a feature that is to roll it and take the weight off. And you can really go a long time without getting tired using the wheels. So I give it a thumbs up."
