Creams and lotions work better when applied with a massager, which aids in their absorption. Moreover, facial massagers are helpful in themselves as they help to relieve muscle tension and even make the skin aging process slower. And finally, massaging the face enhances blood flow allowing the cells and muscles receive more oxygen and nutrients.

Facial massagers can be rollers or face massage machines that deliver different therapy.

When it comes to electric face massagers, choose models offering Radio Frequency, Microcurrent, and Ultrasound technology to target signs of aging, wrinkle repair, and gradual face lifting.

RF and Microcurrent | How They Differ

  • Radiofrequency. What makes RF technology beneficial in skincare is its ability to produce heat that can be applied to the skin's deep layers to stimulate cell turnover. RF massagers can boost collagen production. Radiofrequency facial devices focus on repairing the skin, making it firmer, and minimizing wrinkles.

  • Microcurrent therapy uses a low level of electrical current that stimulates the natural current of the human body. The major benefit of microcurrent devices is their ability to work out facial muscles. Microcurrent therapy is particularly good for lifting sagging skin and droopy eyelids and improving the overall texture of the skin. Microcurrent technology is used to slow down the natural process of aging and is more of a precautionary measure.

In short, radiofrequency tightens the skin, whereas microcurrent tightens the facial muscles.

Best Face Massager Machines Compared

1. Microcurrent | Mini Facial Toning Device | Face Lift Machine

While having a fairly funny design, this device has every chance to be an indispensable tool for toning and hydrating your skin. The product is created by NuFACE and is a winner of the CEW Beauty Insiders Award.

So what is so good about the NuFACE brand? The company was established in California by Carol Cole, a professional aesthetician with a 30-year of experience. As a specialist in microcurrent technology, she had clients even in Hollywood. And in 2005, Carol launched a line of NuFACE products allowing her clients to receive microcurrent treatments without the need for someone's assistance. And this is how this amazing product was born.

This is a clinically tested and FDA-cleared massager for facial skin stimulation and toning. Use it five minutes daily to get both instant and enhanced cumulative (in two months) results. Your skin will look younger and more radiant!

The massager uses microcurrent to stimulate the skin of the face, improving facial features, toning the skin, and smoothing wrinkles. The device has an ergonomic and lightweight design, meaning it is comfortable to hold and operate.

2. Radio Frequency Face Massage Machines

The massager utilizes bipolar RF technology, which is much safer than many traditional methods. The heat level is adjusted automatically depending on what temperature your body has at the time of the treatment.

The unit works by sending radiofrequency waves to the skin tissue, boosting collagen synthesis. Upon touching the skin, it converts electrical energy into heat.

There are two manufacturers of RF facial massagers. Panasonic combines Radio Frequency + Ultrasound technology, while Mlay uses only RF.

The premium Panasonic device combines Radio Frequency + Ultrasound technology to target signs of aging, wrinkle repair, and gradual face lifting. Ultrasonic waves increase moisture levels in the outer layers of the skin. A budget-friendly Mlay RF device uses only Radio Frequency.

As a result, your skin will become tighter while wrinkles will smooth out. The technology is FDA-approved and safe. You can use the massage with any skincare gel. However, the recommended option is the original gel. This product can be a great gift for your mother or wife and is worth every penny.

The Mlay brand also is considered one of the leading players in the global market for RF skin tightening machines. Founded in 2013, today, the company offers a large product line of high-tech beauty products. These are skin rejuvenation, hair removal, and multifunctional devices based on IPL technology, as well as RF beauty machines.

3. Advanced RF Radio Frequency + Ultrasonic Device | Best Trusted Anti-Aging Massager

Explicitly designed for anti-aging skin tightening and gradual face lifting, this facial machine combines two efficient technologies — radiofrequency and ultrasound. With the Panasonic EH-XR10, you will benefit from a double effect.

On the one hand, the tool provides your skin with immediate smoothness and elasticity, meaning you can apply it for a quick result when you need to look better right away. On the other hand, the Panasonic EH-XR10 provides a long-term lift-up effect, serving as a therapeutic anti-aging tool.

Radiofrequency technology delivers heat energy deep into the skin, while ultrasonic waves elevate moisture levels in the skin at one million cycles per second so that the skin feels immediately lifted after just one use.

Made with an ergonomic design, the device needs to be used for 12 minutes three times a week. First, you need to apply the conductive gel that comes with the product. Then, turn on the ultrasonic mode to treat your cheeks, mouth, and face line for 10 minutes. After that, switch to the RF mode to use the device on your forehead. The unit comes with a charger and it takes an hour and a half to charge the device.

RF or Microcurrent | Which Facial Massager Is More Efficient?

  • Radiofrequency is measured in hertz (Hz) and is part of the electromagnetic spectrum. What makes RF technologies beneficial in skincare is their ability to produce heat that can be applied to the skin's deep layers to stimulate cell turnover. RF massagers can boost collagen production. Radiofrequency facial devices focus on repairing the skin, making it firmer, and minimizing wrinkles.

  • Microcurrent therapy uses a low level of electrical current that stimulates the natural current of the human body. The major benefit of microcurrent devices is their ability to work out facial muscles and help skincare products to penetrate the skin better. Microcurrent therapy is particularly good for lifting sagging skin and droopy eyelids and improving the overall texture of the skin. Microcurrent technology is used to slow down the natural aging process and is more of a precautionary measure.

Radiofrequency facial devices focus on repairing the skin, making it firmer, and minimizing wrinkles. Microcurrent technology is used to slow down the natural aging process and is more about a precautionary measure. The advantage of the radiofrequency treatment is its versatility. Such devices can boost collagen production and renew the outside layers of the skin, while microcurrent devices are designed to work only with the muscles of your face.

Radiofrequency facial devices provide both short-term and long-term effects. After an intense RF treatment, the results will last for some time, even if you do not repeat the treatment. Microcurrent sessions, on the contrary, need to be repeated frequently, just like workout exercises that keep you fit only when performed regularly.

In short, radiofrequency tightens the skin, whereas microcurrent tightens the facial muscles. Radiofrequency emits heat to produce a sort of injury to the skin, triggering a reaction from the body, whereas microcurrent uses electric current to stimulate the natural process of your body. However, since radiofrequency therapy is more powerful, the question arises of whether it may cause harmful side effects.

Radio-frequency devices emit energy for X-rays and other purposes, but this process is highly controlled. This is especially true for top-quality products from trusted brands as they are designed to minimize the risk of burns from overheating.

WebMD experts say that RF facial treatment is a safe, non-invasive procedure approved by the FDA for reducing the appearance of wrinkles. There might be some side effects, such as soreness or redness, but those symptoms typically disappear within the first 24 hours following the treatment.

Speaking about the effectiveness of radiofrequency, dermatology specialist Dr. Lehavit Akerman said, “I find it to be extremely effective both in the long term and short. The biggest advantage of RF, in my opinion, is that it’s been thoroughly studied and is both safe and clinically proven to tighten and lift by stimulating collagen production.”

She is also a co-founder of Centennial Beauty, an online publication that covers celebrity, beauty, and internet culture. Christensen has written for the most prestigious lifestyle magazines in Australia, such as Harper’s Bazaar and ELLE.

“I have been trying the Panasonic cleansing and toning device. Panasonic has been such a trusted brand in electronics for a while now and I am really excited they are making their debut into beauty. This tool is really cool and has loads of different functions on it. You can cleanse, moisturize, massage, and brighten. So it has all aspects of your skincare routine. The first thing we are going to use this tool for is a deep cleanse. You are going to need a cotton pad, which you place over it. Then take your cleanser, and apply some of it to a pad. What I love about this product is its versatility, and it comes with a massage feature. I love how my skin feels afterward using this”.

Comparing radiofrequency and microcurrent facial massagers

For illustrative purposes, let’s compare the two products made by the same trustworthy brand but using different technologies. The first one uses radiofrequency technology in combination with ultrasound, while the other one is a microcurrent facial device.

The EH-XR10 provides an immediate effect, increasing the elasticity and smoothness of the skin, whereas the EH-XT20 reduces wrinkles only after four weeks of use.

The EH-XR10 RF model comes with a gel which is needed for better conductivity or, put it otherwise, to strengthen the effect of the device. The microcurrent facial device XT20, on the contrary, is recommended as an auxiliary tool that helps your skin to absorb creams and lotions better.

The radiofrequency XR10 involves a more aggressive approach and should be used no more than three times a week, whereas the EH-XT20 has a milder action and can be used every day. The latter is also good for deep cleansing the skin as the device can extract up to 60% more dirt and grease from the skin pores.

4. Anti-Ageing Face Lift Toner with Collagen and Retinol

Iontophoresis infusion uses collagen and retinol patches, so active ingredients are infused deep into the skin. It helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and increases skin elasticity. The device uses pulsing technology, so you will not feel a vibration.

It is recommended to use collagen and retinol patches only once in 24 hours. For sensitive skin is recommended to leave 48 hours between treatments.

Testing & Customers Review

The Honest Channel: "I bought this Nuface Trinity device primarily to tackle my jowls which were beginning to reappear after an old therapy session that I'd had in 2019. I also wanted to try to lift my hooded eyelids, which were sagging due to the loss of skin elasticity on my forehead. So I've used it pretty much daily now for four months. I bought this larger-size Trinity Nuface model on Amazon. There is a smaller Mini facial toning device that you can buy for around 160 pounds, including the primer gel. To me, that seems like the smarter buy, and if I was starting out again, that's probably the model that I'd go for.

I was a bit, you know, unsure to begin with. I kind of resented the idea of having to do this repetitive five-minute routine every night with all its sweeps and holds and following the little manual that comes with it to the letter. But the more I started using it and felt like I was getting results the more devoted to I became, and now I don't like to use it in the day. I usually use it at night because I don't have time to fit in in the morning. My husband also started using the Nuface, and he'd been applying the primer gel beforehand. And although he got fed up of using the device in the end, he swears by the primary gel. So he still uses that every day as basically the hyaluronic acid in the gel is having an effect on his skin. It's reducing the redness that he can suffer from, and he thinks it's giving it a little plumping effect.

I think it has five settings. I always go for the highest setting. You get these intermittent beeps which are when you're supposed to move on to new areas. It guides you, but I ignore them basically, and just sort of do my own thing. What do I think about the Nuface after four months of using it? Has it made a difference to my skin? Well, I would say it would be a push to describe as a big difference, but yes, it has made a difference, in my opinion. I do think the Nuface is helping keep those sagging gels at bay. There's a slight lift I think, and definitely no decline.

I'm 48, so around the mouth, there's a slight droop but I would say looking at the pictures, it's slightly tighter, and I think that the daily stimulation with the microcurrent is certainly preventing further sagging. So I'm pleased with the jowl area on the whole. And I also felt that I was having some progress with my eyes.

There is no evidence to suggest microcurrent devices are not safe, but people who have pacemakers should avoid using them. I have a dental implant and I haven't had any problems using the Nuface the makers say it's safe to use with implants. The only slightly unpleasant side effects I've noticed were initially I had some on-off pulsing in the eye, in particular on the lid. And it was really just when I first started using it. It took a few weeks to clear up. It was a bit annoying. Occasionally as well, I get kind of tingling of what feels like nerves or something around my neck and it's it usually if I've gone too far you know. I've used too many holds I've done too much around the neck area. So if I just do a couple of passes and holds, usually I get away with no tingling at all. So overall, I've been really pleased with the Nuface. It's not a miracle worker, but it does, over time, give you a subtle lift, I think. "

5. Skin Rejuvenation Photon Mask

I think no face machine will massage the skin as evenly as this mask can do. The whole treatment will take just 10 minutes without the need to move the device around your face. Just place the mask upon your face and forget about it.

The device sends different light waves to your skin using built-in LEDs. Namely, 414 nm waves are beneficial to the sensitive skin, 490 nm waves will help with inflammation, 525 nm waves are known for their anti-aging effect, 590 nm waves fade dark spots, and 630 nm waves stimulate collagen production. Note that the mask does not emit harmful UV rays and is safe for use. Use this massager 3 times a week to shrink pores, tighten the skin, and remove freckles.

It is manufactured by a company that has become a reputable brand in the US, UK, and Hong Kong markets of beauty products and skincare machines. The company offers a wide range of products, from RF, galvanic, and EMS units to cold, warm and ozone therapy machines.

6. Galvanic Face Lifting Roller | Best Budget

Rather than focusing on a single technology, this device combines multiple skin rejuvenation methods — heating, red light, microcurrent, iontophoresis therapies, and micro-vibration treatment. These techniques help to prevent wrinkles, increase blood circulation, and speed up skin regeneration, making the skin fresher and more elastic.

This galvanic face lifting roller is produced by a company owned by a team of professionals with a 5-year of experience in the beauty products industry. The manufacturer promises that your skin will feel better after one month of daily 10-minute treatments. Not only will this treatment refresh your skin, but it will also give a noticeable lifting effect.

Although the device uses various techniques, it is user-friendly and easy to operate. The massager comes with only one button that allows you to turn on and off the device, as well as change the modes. Made from a high-quality titanium material, it has a hypoallergenic skin-friendly case and is absolutely safe. The unit is powered by a rechargeable battery with a charging time of about 4 hours.

Testing & Customers Reviews

We found reviews from YouTube bloggers who tested and reviewed the most popular face massagers from our article.

Lab Muffin Beauty Science: "Let's start with the Panasonic Micro-Foaming Facial Cleanser. It's a four-in-one tool and it has a rotating head that has different attachments that you can put on it. It also has a heated makeup removal plate on the other end. This tool comes with a cleansing brush but you don't have to use it as a cleansing brush which is important because I think cleansing brushes shouldn't be used every day. If you use it too regularly, you can end up with rashes, rough skin, and stinging skin. This device ends up getting around this problem by having a separate foaming mechanism in the middle of the tool. And the main attachment is actually this rollerball attachment, and these balls roll over your skin in a massaging motion. There's pretty much no exfoliation, and the springs stop it from pressing into your skin too hard.

There's still an included brush attachment if you want to exfoliate your skin. It's got extremely soft bristles as the default brush which I'm a big fan of. I'm really impressed by how soft these bristles are there are lots softer than your standard normal cleansing brushes. There are some extra add-on brushes that you can buy as well. The best thing about this tool is that it produces a whole bunch of foam, so it gets foam out of cleansers that usually don't foam up too much. There are two heat settings on the warm makeup removing the plate. There's a low setting which is 43 degrees Celsius, and a high heat setting which is 48 degrees Celsius. I try not to use hot water on my skin, so I was actually a bit worried that this plate might be too much for me. But I found that it's actually not that hot. It's actually a really comfortable, soothing temperature, even in a high setting.

The second device is the Panasonic EH-ST63 ionic cleansing and toning device this is designed for cycles of three minutes of cleansing, moisturizing, and brightening. This is a microcurrent device, and I had no discomfort with this one. There's a cleanse mode that gets rid of anything that's remaining on your skin after cleansing. This is more like a toning step, so you'll be using this with toner and a cotton pad. There's also the moisturizing mode which hydrates the skin and the warm rhythm massage mode.

I personally don't use every step every night, but I found that you can actually finish it in 15 minutes if you do all of the steps. And I think because these tools make your products more effective it ends up being a lot faster. I use the soft brush about once a week with minimal pressure, and I use the silicon pore tool again once a week after I've used foam. This device is waterproof. You can also use this on your body which is really great in the shower, and you can also use the massage roller head to spread cream on your face as well. I've been really enjoying how well these tools work with my routine."

Facial & Eye Photon Ultrasonic Face Massager

Alternatively, you may try a photon massager. Yes, it is much bulkier and more expensive, but this is the price you pay for technologies. This massager has multiple beneficial features. The first one is a red light, which is known to be doing a great job of improving blood circulation and smoothing the skin texture. Blue light is another helpful feature that can aid in curing acne.

There is a vibration function, which is available in two modes: continuous and discontinuous. Besides, you can choose between different intensity levels. If you are a beginner, I recommend starting with a low-intensity setting to avoid an odd tingling sensation.

Diamond microdermabrasion and skin cell growth

This device kills two birds with one stone — it removes blackheads and rebuilds collagen.

The product is clinically proven and recommended by dermatologists. Little wonder, since the brand Microderm was launched by members of the US Academy of Dermatology. Rest assured, these guys know their stuff. The company designs and makes professional-grade skincare tools as well as creams and serums.

The device uses a patented Diamond Safe3D technology that boosts skin cell growth. This includes diamond exfoliation and smooth suction technologies, allowing the device to remove unhealthy skin cells and stimulate the growth of new ones. Just place the massager’s tip against the skin and gently move it around. After each treatment, apply a moisturizer for better results.

Jade Roller & Gua Sha Massager for Face

This Roller is made from stone and is smooth. This product will serve you for a long time and will not fall apart even when dropped. Sure, it does not offer the benefits of electric massagers, and all you get is enhanced blood flow. But that is no small thing, given how much depends on the blood properly circulating through the face.

Still, stone rollers have a strong point when compared to electric devices — they are noiseless. Nor do they consume energy. The product is more than five inches long and has a comfortable handle.

If you are looking for an electric eye massager, read Best Eye Massagers.

Pulse Facial Massager

If you prefer battery-operated options, you may try Pulse Facial Massager. This is a T-type massager operating on AA batteries. The device delivers up to 6,000 vibrations per minute, improving blood circulation on the face and neck. Regular use of such a massager will make your skin more elastic, firmer, and younger. Among other things, it will help to remove eye pouches and reduce wrinkles around your eyes.

The waterproof design allows you to use the device with lotions and other moisturizing beauty products for their better absorption. What I particularly like about this massager is its sleek and compact design. With a weight of just 4 ounces, it will fit nicely into a small bag and will surely become one of your favorite accessories.

What are the other types of face massagers and facial skin therapy machines?

  • Led light therapy devices treat ailments ranging from acne to mood disorders. LED penetrates the skin and promotes biological changes like the production of collagen.
  • Microdermabrasion machine removes impurities like dead skin cells, oil, and debris and improves skin texture and tone. It can reduce the appearance of age spots, wrinkles, acne, fine lines, and sun damage.
  • Microcurrent machines are widely used by beauty salons for it's anti-aging effect. The therapy tightens the skin, and improves the tone of the muscles on the face.
  • High-frequency machines fight acne, and skin imperfections, boost circulation and collagen production, reduce wrinkles and create a younger appearance.
  • If you need a facial pore cleanser, find the best blackhead vacuum.
