It’s always sunny in California. But even if you’re not living in paradise, you and other family members can still benefit from a good old tower fan.

What is the best tower fan in 2022? There is cool innovation in an elegant design that recently appeared on the market — LG AeroTower Air Purifying Fan. It combines a bladeless fan and the advanced HEPA filter that captures 99.97% of fine dust and allergens as small as 0.3 microns, reducing odor and harmful organic compounds.

It features multi-directional purified airflow and operates at whisper-quiet sound levels as low as 23db. It is AAFA Certified and removes over 90% of airborne allergens causing asthma & allergy.

It is big and keeps the air quality great even in the oversized rooms up to 818 sq. ft. So, it is a real rival to Dyson, which has been holding a market of stylish bladeless fans for many years. It's a great innovation, but like Dyson, I think it is a bit overpriced.

As the best tower fan under $100, I recommend a reasonable-priced tower fan from trusted manufacturers like Honeywell or Lasko. It is a classic tower fan but with a slick and modern design. It’s paired with the QuietSet technology that controls both the sound and cooling options.

Buyer's Guide

In this guide, we’ll explain why and how a tower fan can provide greater comfort and improve the quality of your life. We’ll walk you through things to look for when shopping, as well as review the 5 Best Tower Fans that are classical, trusted, and have been popular for years from 2021 to 2022. Not all fans are high quality or created equal, but you should do some comparison research before purchasing a fan for your home or office.

What is a tower fan, and how does it work?

A tower fan is a slim prolonged version of an ordinary fan that usually comes with additional functionality, like oscillation, humidification, or ionization, among other powerful features.

Why should you get a tower fan?

In case you care about the energy costs and would like to save on your utility bills, then a tower fan would be an ideal addition to your house appliances. The other benefits include, but are not limited to the following:

  • It saves a lot of space. A tower fan would easily fit in-between couches, and cardboards placed next (or even on) the desk or in a bathroom. It ideally tucks into any corner of the room and provides space for more important things.
  • It is efficient. Don’t be deceived by the sleek and slim shapes of tower fans, they are pretty powerful in their own right. They also effectively circulate the air inside the room, and some sophisticated models provide as many as 10-speed settings to choose from.
  • It looks stylish and modern and would fit very nicely into any room decor, be it an office or a child’s bedroom.

How to choose the right tower fan?

Before you begin your search, you must know what you're looking for in a tower fan. For example, you may not realize that there are many different types of tower fans with different features and functionality variants, and certain units may only be capable of turning out one or two of these (not all have oscillation features, air purifier, or humidifier options, etc.). Understanding the distinction between the different varieties will be invaluable to the decision-making process.

Overall cooling power & distribution

Perhaps, the most important characteristic is overall cooling power. Which is, in its essence, a combination of several other features and factors, such as the degree of oscillation the fan provides for, the number and strength of speed settings, and the square footage it’s able to cover. Well, the last one is pretty complicated to figure out at first because a lot of manufacturers do not list these numbers in their product descriptions, but some of them do, and if you’re able to find those numbers, see if the fan is powerful enough to cover the room of your choice.

Noise level

Another important feature (at least for some) is the amount of noise the unit generates while functioning. Again, many manufacturers do not disclose the dB of noise the units create but look for clues in the product description or consumer reviews to determine if the unit would suit you, in case you’re noise sensitive. Just to save you time for research, we’ve covered the best min noise models in our TOP list, namely the Quietset Tower Fan with Remote and Cool Air Multiplier Tower Fan, both of which are pretty much noiseless on their lowest settings.

Energy efficiency

Again, to save time, the most energy-efficient model we’ve covered in this guide comes from Dyson. So if energy is such a concern, go for it.

Cost and/or value for the price

The ultimate models with the quite simple functionality of just having a cooling fan with a couple of speeds would cost you from 40 to 70 dollars. In case you want more than just a cooling fan, then you’ll have to invest a lot more, depending on what exact functionality you want your tower fan to have. For example, if you’re looking for a cooling and heating tower fan with an air purifier functionality that’s compatible with Amazon Alexa, then prepare to spend from 300 to 400 dollars.

Aesthetics

If you care about design and how a fan would look in your room aesthetics, then see if the unit is available in any particular color and shape, but you know the drill. The most stylish model we’ve covered in this guide comes from Dyson, it’s also the most expensive, but it’s all well worth it.

Number of Fan Speeds

Now, if you want to be able to fully customize the cooling experience that a tower fan can provide, then low-medium-high options wouldn’t probably be enough. The most advanced models offer up to 10 settings, the least up to 3.

Remote control

All options we’ve covered in this guide will come with remote control. In fact, most of the modern versions come with a remote, so it’s not such a big of deal anymore.

Oscillation

This is a powerful feature. And it can also be a dealbreaker if a fan doesn’t have it or if the oscillation doesn’t cover enough space. In case you want a fan for more than just yourself, then look for oscillation with numbers way above 70 degrees.

Filtration

Again, if you want to have an air purifier and a fan combined, prepare to spend. Good air purifiers with true HEPA filters are not cheap, and if they are combined with any other functionality, their price increases in direct proportion to the added features.

A tower fan + air purifier = cleaner home and easier breathing

As mentioned earlier, some powerful fans come with additional functionality that can include purification, ionization, and humidification of living space. If you want to learn more about purifiers and ionizers in particular, about their benefits, limitations, and even dangers, then we’d advise you to check our article specifically dedicated to just that: Best Air Purifiers

As for the tower fans with such functionality, then, of course, we’d advise you to purchase one of these, even if that’s going to be a significant investment. Because among the obvious benefits of having cleaner air, purifiers can protect your family from viruses and bacteria and remove pet dander, dust, and pollen. The most sophisticated tower fan with an air purifier that we’ve here from Dyson covers as much as 1,600 square feet of contiguous space.

TOP 5 Best Tower Fans

Hereinbelow, we’ll cover the best tower fans on the market from the least to most expensive. You’ll also learn about extra features that powerful tower fans can have: thermostat, heaters, purifiers, ionizers, etc.

Quietest 8-Speed Whole-Room Tower Fan with Remote Control | Perfect for sleeping

This fan from Honeywell is a classic tower fan but with a slick and modern design that would nicely fit into any room's aesthetics.

The seller claims it’s paired with the QuietSet technology that would allow you actually to control both the sound and cooling options. The advanced touch button electronic controls allow you to customize your cooling experience fully: you can choose the light strength from 5 different settings, eight powerful speeds, oscillation, and auto-shut-off. Besides, all of these convenient features are at the touch of a button on the remote control.

Key Features:

  • Speed settings: 8
  • Auto Shut-Off: 1, 2, 4 & 8 Hour
  • Light: 5 lighting selections

Some of the testers said the fan was the quietest they ever had in their lives and that it really “moved” air as advertised. Many said it was an ideal option and a great compromise between the amount of breeze and the level of noise it generated. Some testers also mentioned that if you were looking for a quiet fan at low speeds, and didn’t need a strong air push, then the Honeywell would be a decent choice. Thus, we deem this tower fan ideal for sleeping and for white noise, in case you were looking for something like that.

Wind Curve Tower Fan with Remote Control and Fresh Air Ionizer | Lasko - the tallest tower fan

Lasko is another industry leader that’s been in the business since like the 1900s, so more than a century, meaning they must have pretty much figured out how to manufacture great and reliable products.

This unit is a sophisticated space-saving cooling fan that would freshen any room within your house with its oscillating and high-reaching widespread air circulation. This model also stands out with having a built-in air ionizer that would emit negative ions and reduce static electricity, as well as help trap fine air pollutants. Unfortunately, though, if you suffer from asthma or any other respiratory diseases, this is, perhaps, the option you’d like to disregard or even avoid. We’ve written an extensive guide on why air ionizers are not the best choice in our guide on air purifiers, so if you’re interested to learn more, please, go ahead and read it here: Best Air Purifiers

Key Features:

  • Speed settings: 3
  • Auto Shut-Off: 7.5-hour timer
  • Light: Yes
  • Oscillation: Yes, widespread

Others said it was very easy to assemble and operate, and fully adjustable to respond to any whim. Unhappy consumers, though, said the item started to produce unbearable noise after a while, was more of a dust collector, than a powerful fan, and didn’t overall live up to their high expectations. Well, if you’re looking for a quiet machine, then this is probably a poor choice.

Oscillating Tower Fan w/Multi-function Remote Control | Lasko - tower fan with timer

Cool Air Multiplier Tower Fan // tower fan without blades // quietest tower fan

This is the most expensive item on our list. So, while other options were pretty much in the same price range of approximately one hundred dollars, this unit would cost you eight times as much. But, apparently, I think it’s totally worth it.

According to the seller, it’s super quiet and consumes 10% less energy than other fans on the market. It features an air multiplier technology to create a powerful stream of uninterrupted airflow that could be directed anywhere inside the room. It’s also very easy to clean and completely safe around kids as there are no awkward fast-spinning blades.

Testing & Customers Reviews

Here are the reviews from YouTube bloggers who tested the tower fans and have found them effective and worth buying.

NICOLETIANA: "I'm going to be unboxing and doing a test on this Honeywell fan. There's eight different levels of cooling i guess.

So, here we have the power cool, cool refresh, relax, white noise, calm whisper and sleep. It has an auto off timer option, dimming feature, sturdy base easy to assemble and remote control.

So, it has it's quiet power. So, this is my first ever tower fan it takes up minimal space and i'm really excited, because i live in hawaii and it's super hot. So, got this on Amazon. It easy to use. Five night time dimming options. I love the base, because it's small. It's probably gonna fit right there my snack box is. And it has eight cooling levels.

So, it has in an auto off timer option. So, we have either one, two, four and eight hours remote control that's always helpful, because that can be lazy ass sometimes. So, that's gonna be really helpful.

So, i'm personally probably gonna have it on power cool, cool or white noise. So, i'm probably gonna turn it a little more towards me. It's definitely covering the wide range of room in various space really cool and then we have the timer here and that also lights up which is nice."

Featured Tech: "In this video i'm going to be doing my one week review on the LG Pure Care Aero tower purifying fan. A lot of people are saying that this is overpriced, you can get a different purifying fan for a lot less more than half off and it will do the same thing. And to some extent they are right you're still going to get a purifying fan tha does a very similar job, but with this you're getting a ton more luxurious features such as the app monitoring the smart diagnosis different modes and this is really a luxurious option. This is meant to compete with the Dyson tp04. So, as far as price for this fan i really don't have an issue with it, because it's very competitive with other luxurious purifying fans on the market. I like to think of this fan as the Bentley of purifying fans, it's not for everybody. But for the people that care, it's a great option with all that being said.

Let's talk about the pros, beginning with the fact of how easy it is to gain access to your filter now, of course, you don't need to gain access to your filter every day this is not going to be an everyday ordeal, but when you do and when you have to it's very easy and convenient. The bottom piece the bottom plastic piece of the fan that's front facing is magnetic. So, it's just easy to pull out and push back in. A couple other features i like about this fan is the UV nanotechnology. If you're not familiar with what's the UV nanotechnology it is a UV that pretty much eliminates any dust from the blades that are turning inside the fan and the reason why that this is great is because you don't want the dust piling inside the fan. So, i think that's a very smart feature.

The other smart feature is actually part of it is called smart and that is the smart diagnosis feature within the LG. If you're hearing suspicious noises with the fan, whether it's the first week you buy it or a year into owning the fan you can run a smart diagnosis and what that does is that it tries to diagnose your fan to see what that issue is. And this is all done through the app, which is super convenient, when it comes to controls. I really like how many options LG gives you.

So, you have the control panel on top of the fan, you have the remote which you can magnetically attach to the side of the fan and it's a very strong magnet, by the way, and then, finally, you can control it through the app.

So, you have three different ways you can control this fan which is great considering that some of the alternative options out on the market you really have about two options either the app or the remote control. The final pro i want to talk about is how cool and powerful the air is for this fan. I left it in the office, cooling it down. The office that i used it in is around 200 square feet and i left the fan on at level 6 speed and i left it in wide mode. It did an amazing job. When i left the fan at night when i began powering it on my office was around 74 degrees and then when i came back in in the morning it was 69 degrees. So, i was impressed by how much it cooled down the office and it's definitely a noticeable difference.

When it comes to cons, i didn't like the weight. If you're going to be the type of person that's not going to move this fan around a lot or even ever you're just going to place it once and you're done then you can disregard this cons, but if you're the type of person that's planning to move this fan from one room to another this is going to be a really bad option for a fan for you, because this fan weighs almost 28 pounds."
