I’ve got for testing a new GameSir F4 Falcon mobile gaming controller. Not that I am an avid gamer and I would most likely refuse to test it, if not for one thing.

It wasn’t long ago that my friends and I regularly — or to be honest, every night — played team battles in one of the most popular games so far — Call of duty mobile. Yeah. Just imagine 35-year guys sitting around and playing war games. Well, who does not want to be the coolest guy? That is why, without hesitation, I agreed to test the device.

Appearance and Specifications

When unfolded, it looks more like some kind of drone or spaceship from a fiction movie. A happy combination of colors, as well as their tones, give the device a very futuristic look.

The product set is pretty simple. The device itself, charging cable and manual. Basically, what else should it include? “Get Started Fast: Plug and Play,” claims the manufacturer.

Connection and the First Start

Of course, when I told my comrades-in-arms that soon I would get such a miracle device in a short while, they began waiting for it with impatience, And then the longed-for moment came.

I put the charger and manual back in the box and connected the gaming controller to my phone. It is pretty simple to do. Everything was exactly as promised.

So I launch a game, enter the combat mode, call my friends, and the battle is loading… I appear with my friends and.. Nothing. Random button pressing, searching for sequences, removing and putting back the controller — all this did not give me the desired results.

What the hell, I think. The battle is underway, while I am standing still and nothing happens. Well, after all, the battle is more important. I put the controller aside and go on playing the game the old-fashioned way.

One Step Backward

The battle is over and we come back to the device. “What’s wrong with the controller?” I wonder. Okay, it is not charged — and I put it on charge. Fifteen minutes later I enter the battle again, though a test one, but nothing happens again.

Well then, it is time to read the manual. And here is another trouble. It is all written in hieroglyphs. Go figure! I browse the Internet but find only scarce information. Just a couple of videos and images that provide explanations in the plug-and-play style. But backing off isn’t my nature! I try to find the device through Bluetooth. Nothing. Plus, the product description says that it should not (but who knows?).

I change tactics and try to use settings in the game. I enter the setting menu and see the controller item. Oh, maybe that’s it… but no, here is Bluetooth again. So what to do then? I ask my friends for help.

One Millimeter Here, One Millimeter There

After much discussion and a long search for solutions, we have found out that in the game, we can customize the interface of the button layout depending on our needs and preferences. The controller comes with two sensors that come in contact with the screen. And the whole point is to place all the necessary controls under the sensors.

Now, it seems quite obvious and logical. But initially, I was thrown off by this picture from the manufacturer’s website.

Note that the picture shows all the controls being positioned in a standard way.

All right. The punchline is coming. My iPhone 10 (not a small thing in terms of the screen size) allows for positioning the GameSir F4 Falcon from edge to edge, plus slight offsets. So I have a small margin to drag and, more importantly, position the controls more accurately.

What annoys me is the controls’ alignment. You place it, save, and test it. It does not work. You place it again, save and test it. One button functions correctly while the other one does not recognize the item. It took me 30 minutes to adjust the elements’ position to the sensors, and visa versa. I tested, saved and tested again. So much for “Plug and Play”.

What about the Game?

Although I grumbled about the settings, I still liked playing with the Falcon. This gadget really helps you with gaming. With this device, it is much more convenient to aim and shoot. I have tried different options for using sensors: aiming — reload, aiming — shooting, shooting — running.

In each of the options, it is easier to act. And of course, it is up to you to decide which combination to choose.

The device’s ergonomics is good. Now, it is easier to hold the phone in the hand. The buttons are pleasant to press. The keystroke indicator does not divert attention.

Did the device help me become the top player? — “Smiling in response”.

Heres the basic principle of this device. The buttons on screen cannot be that big. They need to be barely visible under the contacts. The bigger the on screen buttons are the farther away the actual button separates from the edge of the phone, thus rendering it useless. Ive been using gamesir products on mobile games including the Falcon for years now and only ever had slight issues that were actually my fault. Is there a way for me to send any screenshots?
