What is the best smart lock deadbolt? Schlage Encode Smart Wi-Fi Deadbolt with Century Trim is a smart lock that lets you control access to your home from anywhere using the Schlage Sense app or Amazon Alexa voice service. The app allows you to remotely check if doors are locked, receive alerts when doors are unlocked, and conveniently share access with guests or family members, so they can enter using their own unique code or by tapping on the touchscreen.

If you are looking for something more budget-friendly, consider the ULTRALOQ U-Bolt Pro Smart Lock or August SL03C02S03 Smart Lock Pro. The ULTRALOQ model includes a 6-in-1 keyless smart lock with a 360-degree fingerprint ID, a keypad, and a mechanical key.

The app allows for sharing e-keys and codes with your guests and family members, both permanently and temporarily, as well as seeing who is entering your home. The device connects to WiFi through 2.4GHz, is compatible with Apple Watch, and offers voice control with Alexa and Google Assistant.

What we particularly like about the ULTRALOQ model is that it is fully automatic. The device will lock the door automatically when you leave and unlock it when you arrive with your smartphone turned on. Crafted with brushed stainless steel, this lock is ideal for exterior doors and gives you maximum security.

The August SL03C02S03 Smart Lock Pro is even more affordable but is made from less sturdy material — polished aluminum. Like the above-mentioned model, this one offers keyless access and lets you keep track of people coming in and out of your home.

You can monitor a 24/7 activity feed on your smartphone, provided that it is iOS 9.0 and higher or Android 5.0 and higher. The device also locks the door automatically and unlocks when you approach. The advantage of this model is that it allows for retrofit installation and is compatible with the majority of single-cylinder deadbolts. Anyway, the lock requires only a screwdriver to be installed, with the whole process taking no more than 10 minutes.

Testing & Customers Reviews

We found reviews from real YouTube bloggers about the products from our article.

Mr. Locksmith: "Schlage Encode is one of my favorite, well, it's my go-to electronic deadbolt for customers who want to integrate into their home automation or they want to be able to do their phone from anywhere. If you want total home integration, with home automation and everything, this one's great. It's got built-in Wi-Fi. It's got the Bluetooth. It's encrypted Bluetooth. So when you hear about problems people have with their video doorbells being hacked or their baby monitors hacked, that's 'cause they're just using plain-Jane Bluetooth. It's not encrypted. So you gotta be really, really careful with a lot of your products for home, because it can be easily hacked. So this one is encrypted Bluetooth. It goes into your Wi-Fi system, so it works great, and it does 100 codes.

The new feature, I haven't tried it yet, but you have a code that will only work by certain times of the day. So if you have a caregiver or nanny or housekeeper coming over, they can use their code only on certain dates and times. It's good for an hour, or it's good for one use only, which is good for Airbnbs. We're selling a lot of these, and we're installing a lot of these. The app is so good on this, it's a free app as well. Now it's not a true touchscreen. It's actually better. The touchscreens are good, except if you live in a really cold climate and your fingers are cold, it's hard to get the touchscreens to work. So this is actually a pretty efficient system. It's got the key override, which I really like. Now the other feature I like about these guys is they'll put in, we call it, a hardened strike with three-inch wood screws. Now this is really good, 'cause it goes in the frame, the edge of your door, so the frame, and your dead bolt will go into this. So it makes it that little bit, way, way stronger. So it's good out of the box. It's a way better than what a lot of the other companies give you. I'm glad they're still putting it in.

It's very simple, easy to use. One of my favorite features is I like it to lock automatically. And it's compatible with Alexa, Google, and Apple. So it's compatible with the major systems. The Schlage Encode is a fantastic system, and they've made it even better. We are finding that the Encode, because it has Wi-Fi, it is using batteries more. They seem to last about six months. That's 'cause the Wi-Fi uses it a lot of battery power. In conclusion, I love this deadbolt. The Encode is great, built-in Wi-Fi, built-in Bluetooth, free app, powerful app, 100 user codes, self-locking, I love that, or you can turn it off and don't it self-lock, and an audit trail, and now I can schedule, if I got a housekeeper or, a caregiver. Your app will tell you when the door is opened, locked, who's coming and who's left. It's good for kids, knowing what time they came home. So I love it. It's a great lock. I highly recommend it."

Zachary Anderson: "I've been slowly but surely getting into smart home tech you know devices that can not only make life a little easier but turn something as basic as locking your door into something cool and that's where the August Smartlock Pro comes into play. This will work with the widest range of standard dead bolts so you won't really have to worry about compatibility. Now as far as features go this lock is no slouch besides being able to unlock your door with your phone manually. You can set the device to auto lock and auto unlock depending on your phone's current location so when you leave that the device will lock your door and when you return it will unlock all on its own. Along with that you can grant access to other household members so that they can lock and unlock with their phones and devices as well.

And then with the August home app you can view all of the activity from the lock and you can see who's using the lock and when exactly they've been using it. This is also where you can schedule access with a specific time frame of your choosing for people you trust. And on top of all of this you get that full peace of mind with August's integrated door sense sensor which lets you know if your door is securely closed and locked 100%. Now in my personal experience the August smart lock has been fantastic. Everything seems to work as advertised and I would absolutely recommend this to those looking to step up their smart home game. The setup was seamless. It's neat being able to give my cousin's access to the lock as they do visit on a regular basis and it's awesome being able to just open my door without having to hunt for keys because well my phone is now my key. What if you don't have your phone? Well August thought of that and they offer an optional keypad you can use with a customizable code to unlock the door."

Silver Eagle Locksmith: "When you're purchasing ULTRALOQ U-Bolt Pro Smart Lock you will getting 360° fingerprint reader, so it will allow you to store up to 120 fingerprint access. This is just awesome and it gives really a big variety of access using a fingerprint. Another cool feature that you can use it's an actual code. So yes it's also an actual keypad that will allow you to store codes of keyless entry. On top of all of that you will be able to use the auto unlock feature. So basically if you're coming back from shopping and your hands are full you don't even need to do anything when you enable this feature. The lock will recognize that you are entering the area, the radius of your house, and it will basically unlock it for you as long as your smartphone is with you. Now this feature is pretty secure. It will not auto unlock automatically when you in the house or when you near the actual door lock. They made it smart so basically only if you leaving the zone of where you live for a certain amount of time and when you entering back, when you come back and approach into the door then it will activate that feature and it will auto unlock the door and a lock for you.

Another cool feature with this lock is the ability to use a conventional key. Yes. So this lock also have a conventional key which is a Schlage keyway. You will also be able to use a phone app. So, yes, if you want you can use an actual phone app and basically using this lock with the additional Wi-Fi Bridge you will be able to auto unlock it and use this lock remotely with your smartphone. You will also get push notifications. So when someone enters the door you will get a push notification and when the door is shut you will also be notified. And you can control everything through your smartphone. Another cool feature is going to be the ability to send electronic key to someone else. So you will be able to send invitation to friends and family to open the door locks with their own smartphone and you as an administrator you can revoke this access later on and so forth. What about the security level of this lock? So this awesome smart lock basically offer 128 bit which is Advanced Encryption Standard with dual keys. So basically it will give you more security. If someone tries to hack this lock it's gonna be very difficult, from my opinion it's almost impossible."
